이응[O], 울림의 방
CIRCLE, Room of Sound
이응[O]은 구음으로 울림을 표현하는 유일한 자음이다.
예를 들어 거문고 소리를 ‘둥, 당, 징’, 꽹과리 소리를 ‘갱,깽’, 징 소리를 ‘징’, 북 소리를 ‘둥’으로 표현하는 것처럼 모든 울리는 소리는 받침에 ‘O’을 사용한다.
그동안 우리는 타악주자로서 복잡하고 세세한 리듬꼴과 기술에 대한 발전을 추구해왔다. 이는 장구와 꽹과리, 징 같이 정확한 음정이 없고 울림만 있는 무율 타악기의 한계를 극복하기 위한 나름의 대책이었을 것이다.
이 시점에서 우리는 다시 그 악기만의 울림에 집중해본다.
In Hangeul, Eung [O] is used for words that express resonance.
We have pursued the development of complex and diverse rhythms and techniques. This was to overcome the limitations of non-rhythmic percussion instruments, such as janggu, kwaenggwari, and jing, that had no precise pitch and only reverberation. Now, let's focus on the sound of that instrument again.
곡 소개
1. 영,원 [O]
우리 음악은 원의 호흡으로 이루어져 있다. 원의 호흡은 시작과 끝을 이어주며 공간을 가득 채운다. 정주의 울림으로 공간을 채워 무대 위에 원을 그려본다.
2. WOOLDA (with 한솔잎_철현금)
수많은 울림 중에서 ‘메아리’를 타악기로 표현했다. 비슷한 소리의 악기가 마주보며 서로의 소리를 따라한다. 겹쳐진 수많은 울림들은 우리의 아픔을 따라 함께 울어주는 것 같기도 하다.
3. GLUE
가공되기 전의 원초적인 재료들을 바탕으로 음악을 만들어낸다. 타악기가 가진 장점은 그 어떤 재료들을 가지고도 다양한 타법을 통해 울림을 만들어 낸다는 것이다. 자연에서 나오는 울림은 마치 풀의 끈적거림처럼 은근하게 살아서 움직인다.
4. Pray
'청각'은 인간의 오감 중 가장 먼저 열리고 가장 늦게 닫힌다. 인간을 세상에서 처음으로 맞이하고 마지막까지 배웅하는 소리는 영혼과 어떤 연관이 있는 것일까. 굿 장단을 기반으로 운라와 양금이 선율을 이끌어나가며 부속 악기들이 분위기를 살린다.
5. 살 part.2 (with 박성진_기타)
'살'은 ‘놓음’과 ‘흩음’을 주제로 하여 넘실대는 도당굿의 가락을 활용하였다. 2019년에 선보인 ‘살’이라는 곡을 편곡하여 새롭게 재탄생 시켜 ‘살 part.2’는 플라멩코 기타와 함께 한다. 독특한 타악기적 표현까지 느껴지는 플라멩코 기타와 장구가 만나 의외의 궁합을 보여준다.
PROGRAM
1. Zero(0)+Circle(O)=Eternity
Korean traditional music breathes in the shape of a circle. This breath continues uninterrupted. Fill the space with the reverberation of Jeong-ju and draw a circle on the stage.
2. WOOLDA (with Solip HAN, playing Chul-hyun-geum)
'Echo' is expressed with percussion. Instruments with similar sounds imitate each other. The sound of instruments sympathizes with our pain and weeps together.
3. GLUE
The advantage of percussion is that it can create resonance with any material.
We made music with raw materials. The sound of these materials seems subtly like the stickiness of grass.
4. Pray
'Hearing' is the first to open and the last to close among the five senses. I wonder what kind of connection with the soul the sound that accompanies the beginning and the end of human beings. It mainly uses the beat of 'gut', and it is a rhythm used in traditional Korean rituals to soothe the soul.
5. Sal part.2 (with Sungjin PARK, playing Flamenco guitar)
We arranged the song 'Sal', which was released in 2019. ('Sal' is Only 3 janggus are played) 'Sal' means letting go of all worries, and the rhythm of the Dodang-gut is pleasant. 'Sal part.2' is accompanied by a flamenco guitar.
